The Phoenix is hiring for the following positions for the 2016-2017 school year–come join our team!

Applications are due on Friday April 8th. This is the deadline to be guaranteed consideration for a position. After the first round, we’ll continue to accept applications and conduct interviews for unfilled positions.

 

The positions we’re hiring for include:

 

News Editor: Provide frequent, informative coverage of the UBCSUO and UBCO, with some additional content on UBC Van and provincial, national, international, and education news. Conduct interviews, write articles, manage reporters, complete projects, and pursue investigations.

Arts Editor: Provide coverage of arts on campus, in the city, and in popular culture. Profile UBCO student artists and the Fine Arts faculty. Maintain a team of contributors to write on concerts, movies, theatre, and more.

Life Editor: Provide varied coverage of lifestyle, student life, and human interest / general interest topics including fashion, food, travel, and health. Focus on reflecting UBCO’s campus culture and student body.

Features Editor: Complete long-form feature articles and oversee multi-article features and theme issues. Gather writing contributors and edit their work, and coordinate Phoenix staff to execute projects.

Opinions Editor: Gather opinion articles, letters, and commentary from the student body and campus community in addition to overseeing Phoenix editorials.

Sports Editor: Provide frequent coverage of the Heat varsity teams, including weekend game recaps, athlete profiles, and statistical analysis. Gather additional content on lifestyle sports, intramurals, fitness, and pro sports.

 

Ad Sales Manager: Pursue new and existing ad contracts for our print editions and website. Qualified candidates will have business experience (sales, management, marketing), be or become familiar with The Phoenix content and operations, and have pre-existing contacts. This position comes with base salary plus commission.

Copy Editor: Proofread print and web articles for accuracy, spelling and grammar, legality, and effectiveness.

Web Editor: Ensure that articles are uploaded to The Phoenix website, correctly formatted, and regularly publicized and promoted. Pursue web-specific projects, manage any website issues, and help with social media.

 

Art Director: Oversee the overall look of the paper and ensure page layout is completed. Create images and page designs using Adobe Creative Suite, manage illustrators and production assistants, and foster visual storytelling.

Photo Editor: Gather photos for print, web, and social media. Manage a team of photo contributors, conduct photo shoots/assignments, and edit photos to be publication-ready.
